Baque Voador is an Afro-Brazilian drumming group based in Naarm (aka Melbourne) that strives to genuinely interpret drumming traditions from Northeast of Brazil having Maracatu de Baque Virado as its main reference. Led by Humberto Porto, Baque Voador performance is an exhilarating cultural experience with a group of 8 to 15 “batuqueiros” (drummers) delivering an authentically raw, vibrant and awing performance with percussion and song that reaches the inner core of human ancestry in each spectator and in which not moving the body is not an alternative. Presentations are carried out mixing traditional chants with traditional drumming while also bringing non traditional songs and arrangements in reverence to the traditional matrix.
